Can Private Label Period Underwear Be Customized with Your Logo?

Yes. Private label period underwear can carry a custom logo through jacquard waistbands, heat-transfer marks, woven labels, printed labels, embroidery, or branded packaging. The right method depends on fabric stretch, wash temperature, logo size, order volume, and where the mark sits on the garment. For U.S. sales, a logo does not replace mandatory textile information: the FTC requires fiber content, country of origin, and manufacturer or dealer identification, while fibers representing 5% or more by weight are generally identified by generic name. A reliable supplier should therefore develop branding and compliance labeling together rather than treat them as separate jobs.
A logo can be added to an existing factory style or built into a new OEM design. The first route normally changes fewer components: the buyer keeps the existing pattern, gusset construction, fabric platform, and sewing method, then changes branding, colors, labels, or packaging. A more customized program can alter the waistband width, body fabric, absorbent layers, leg shape, rise, gusset length, stitching, size grading, and packaging format. Each additional custom material may come from a different mill or subcontractor, so one garment can carry several separate minimum production requirements rather than a single MOQ.
That distinction matters most with jacquard elastic. A printed or heat-applied mark is added after the main fabric has already been produced, while a jacquard logo is woven into the waistband during elastic production. The supplier therefore needs artwork, repeat length, waistband width, yarn colors, stretch requirement, and logo orientation before ordering the elastic. A 30 mm waistband and a 40 mm waistband cannot automatically use the same artwork because stretching changes the apparent width and spacing of letters. Approving a logo only as a flat computer file leaves too much room for distortion once the waistband is stretched during wear.
A useful waistband approval is not “logo approved.” It is “logo approved at finished width, finished stretch, finished color, and finished garment tension.”
Heat-transfer branding gives more flexibility when the order does not justify dedicated woven elastic. The mark can be small, smooth, and positioned inside or outside the garment, but the adhesive film has to work with the selected nylon, polyester, cotton blend, modal blend, or elastane-containing fabric. Temperature and pressure matter because underwear fabrics often contain stretch fibers. A transfer that looks clean after one press can still crack at the edges or lose adhesion after repeated laundering, so approval should include finished garments rather than loose fabric swatches.
Wash validation gives the buyer a repeatable way to compare samples. ISO 6330:2021 covers domestic washing and drying procedures for textile testing and includes 16 procedures for Type A machines, 12 for Type B, 7 for Type C, and 6 drying procedures. Each defined washing procedure represents one domestic wash. A brand can therefore specify a practical internal protocol, such as checking logo adhesion, waistband recovery, seam condition, color, and garment measurements after 5, 10, 25, or 50 selected wash cycles rather than judging the first sample only.
The wash protocol should match the care instructions planned for retail. In the United States, the FTC Care Labeling Rule requires manufacturers and importers of covered apparel to provide regular care instructions and to have a reasonable basis for those instructions before sale. The label must remain available to the consumer through the useful life of the garment. If a period brief is labeled for machine washing but the applied logo survives only gentle hand washing, the branding method and the intended care route do not match.

Finished period underwear needs more than dimensional checks, but the same controlled approach helps compare waistband shrinkage, body shrinkage, twisting, puckering, and logo position before and after care. A logo that shifts because the surrounding fabric shrinks 3% is still a product problem even when the print itself remains intact.
Logo placement should follow garment construction. A small external mark near the hip generally experiences different stretch from a logo running across the front waistband. An internal transfer sits against skin and therefore needs a smooth edge and suitable placement. Embroidery adds thread, backing, and local stiffness, so it is better kept away from the absorbent gusset and areas exposed to repeated friction. A sewn woven label should also be checked for edge softness because a 15 mm label can feel very different from a printed interior mark in close-fitting underwear.

Branding also extends to legally required labeling. Under U.S. textile rules, fiber content, country of origin, and the identity of the manufacturer, importer, or another qualifying dealer generally need to appear on the textile label. Fibers at 5% or more of total fiber weight are normally listed by generic name, subject to the statutory rules and exceptions. A brand name printed prominently on the waistband cannot replace those disclosures, so artwork planning should reserve physical space for both marketing marks and required product information.
For European sales, Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 governs textile fiber names and related labeling. It states that only products composed exclusively of the same fiber may use descriptions such as “100%,” “pure,” or “all.” Period underwear often contains several materials across the shell, elastic, lining, and functional gusset, so the technical bill of materials should be settled before final label artwork. Changing one lining fabric after label printing can create avoidable rework.
Packaging can carry more branding than the garment itself. Common private-label formats include printed cartons, paper sleeves, hangtags, zipper pouches, product inserts, barcode stickers, size stickers, and shipping-ready polybags or paper-based packs. A retailer may need an EAN or UPC position, a style number, size, color, care language, fiber statement, and country-of-origin information in addition to the brand logo. Packaging artwork should therefore be released only after the garment specification and labeling copy are stable.
Color also needs physical approval. A brand may send a Pantone reference or another agreed color standard, but the same nominal color can look different on elastic yarn, coated transfer film, cardboard, and stretch jersey. Rather than approving “navy” in an email, buyers can request a lab dip for fabric, a yarn or elastic sample for the waistband, and a printed packaging proof. A tolerance agreed before production is more useful than comparing bulk goods with a backlit laptop display after thousands of units have already been made.
Sampling should move in controlled stages. A first prototype checks pattern shape and construction; a revised sample addresses fit and material comments; a pre-production sample should represent approved bulk fabric, logo method, colors, trims, labels, and packaging as closely as possible. A brand ordering several sizes can also request a size set rather than evaluating only a medium. If a collection runs from XS to 3XL, waistband tension, gusset position, rise, and logo scale should be reviewed across the graded range instead of assuming every size behaves like the base pattern.
One approved medium sample cannot show whether a waistband logo remains proportionate on XS and 3XL, or whether the gusset stays correctly positioned after pattern grading.
The specification sent to the factory should therefore use measurements rather than visual comments. Logo width can be stated in millimeters, its distance from the center front can be measured, waistband width can have an allowed tolerance, and packaging can have fixed dimensions. The same document can identify logo file version, thread or print color, label placement, wash-care wording, fiber composition, barcode position, packing quantity, and approved reference sample. Version control becomes increasingly important once 10 or more separate components are involved in one SKU.
Order quantity affects which route is commercially practical, but there is no universal private-label MOQ. One supplier may stock the body fabric but outsource elastic; another may control knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, printing, and packing through different partners. A buyer should therefore ask for the MOQ of the finished garment and each customized component. A factory that can sew 300 pieces may still require a larger material commitment for custom-dyed fabric or dedicated jacquard elastic.
The quotation should follow the same structure. Ask whether the price includes garment production, custom logo application, main labels, care labels, individual packaging, cartons, sampling, artwork setup, and inspection. Some branding methods carry one-time setup charges while others mainly increase the per-piece price. Separating those items also makes later reorders easier to compare, especially when the second order reuses an existing screen, embroidery program, waistband artwork, or packaging layout.
Before bulk production, the brand can approve a short control sheet covering garment measurements, logo dimensions, logo position, elastic stretch, visible defects, stitching, label information, packaging, carton quantity, and laundering checks. A buyer may inspect a defined sample from each production lot rather than opening every unit; the sampling plan should be agreed with the supplier or inspection provider before production. For a 2026 private-label program, traceable specifications, signed approvals, and controlled test methods provide far more useful information than a verbal promise that a logo is “washable.”
Customization therefore goes well beyond putting artwork on underwear. A factory should be able to explain which process suits the selected fabric, how the logo behaves under stretch, what happens after repeated care, what quantities are required for each customized material, and which labels are needed in the sales market. A logo is ready for bulk production only after the garment, branding method, wash conditions, dimensions, labeling, and packaging have all been approved together.
